Jorge Insurance Limited

Jorge Insurance Limited is the captive re/insurance undertaking owned by Grupo Jorge.

The captive was set up in March 2021 for the purpose of providing General Business insurance coverage exclusively for the risks of the various companies within the Jorge Group.

Jorge Insurance Limited (Company registration C 98357) is licensed, authorized and regulated by the Malta Financial Services Authority to carry on business of insurance and reinsurance under the Insurance Business Act (Cap 403).

The captive is currently authorized for Class 16 – Miscellaneous Financial Loss and underwrites the risk of financial loss to the Jorge Group resulting from outbreaks of African Swine Fever; and is passported under Freedom of Services rights to provide cover for insurance risks in Spain.

The Board of Directors of Jorge Insurance Limited regularly review the potential risk exposures of Grupo Jorge in order to consider the underwriting of new classes and lines of business within the Jorge captive, subject to authorization and licencing by the Malta regulatory authorities.

Carlos Blasco Lamarca joined Grupo Jorge in 2011 as CFO and HHRR Director having previously worked as CFO for several industrial Companies and for E&Y as a Senior Consultant & Manager in the Corporate Finance Area. Carlos has a Degree in Economics from the University of Zaragoza, International MBA from the Instituto de Empresa (Honors), MBA from UCLA (Honors) and a PMD from Esade.

A qualified Chartered Insurance Practitioner with the Chartered Insurance Institute U.K., and a with a long number of years’ experience in insurance, reinsurance and related areas, having occupied key C-suite positions and various directorships with leading insurance companies. Throughout his career he had exposure in a variety of insurance markets including Malta, Gibraltar, London and the MENA region. He has spent a considerable number of years heading a leading a listed insurance company in Bahrain and held directorships in the Middle East. Presently occupies various directorship positions on a number of undertakings established in Malta and licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority as (re)/insurance companies, affinity underwriters and captive (re)/insurance companies and insurance intermediaries, including having board oversight roles for approved functions such as internal audit, risk management, actuarial and compliance. Additionally, he provides freelance consultancy services in areas related to insurance and risk management to corporate clients.

Grupo Jorge is a Spanish business group composed of various companies in the pork, agricultural and energy sectors, with an extensive track record and profitable, continuous and sustained growth.

A family background and a global future

The Group origins date back to the 1940s, with a business that sold pig livestock. Over the years, the business grew and was passed down from generation to generation until slaughtering and cutting were added to livestock production in the 1990s. Today, led by the Samper family, the Group covers all pork production chain processes and has diversified its business areas with renewable energy activities, rural estates and hardwood tree planting.

The pork industry is where Grupo Jorge began its main business. The Group started in 1940 by selling pork and soon added breeding and fattening to its activities. Grupo Jorge subsequently expanded the business by adding slaughterhouses, cutting plants and the processing of pork by-products and the curing and sale of serrano and Iberian ham. The Group is currently the market leader in Spain and Europe and exports to over 100 countries around the world.
